Alzheimer’s: an association allows caregivers to rest
Alzheimer’s: an association allows caregivers to rest

It’s World Alzheimer’s Day this Saturday, September 21. It affects nearly a million people in France. The France-Alzheimer association offers vacation stays so that caregivers can rest.

Alzheimer’s entered the life of a couple five years ago. The disease punctuates the daily life of Patrice and Véronique. At 61, the man has forgotten the simplest gestures. In addition to the loss of autonomy, there are violent tremors in his left arm. The slightest movement requires the help of his wife. The wife has become a caregiver. She prepares everything in advance, medications and meals. When she has to go out and leave him alone, she leaves little notes like little pebbles. Although care and certain activities are taken care of, Véronique must still continue to work. Fortunately, her office is just a stone’s throw from her home. A baby monitor allows her to check that everything is going well in the apartment while she works. Added to the stress is exhaustion. She has put aside all her hobbies to take care of her husband.

With the help of an association, eleven couples went to relax for a few days at the seaside. Volunteers take over from the carers. The price depends on the couple’s income.
