French international Hugo Auradou, prosecuted for “gang rape” in Argentina, took part in his first collective training session open to the public with Pau on Wednesday, September 18, nine days after his first return to the Section’s training center, an AFP correspondent noted.

“He was integrated as agreed in his recovery planexplained the Béarn defense coach Antoine Nicoud during a press conference. He did a week of athletic recovery, of testing. And a second week where he partly reintegrated into collective training. He fit back into the mold very naturally, very comfortable in rugby. For the moment, Hugo’s return is appreciated and positive”he added.

Asked what would happen next, the technician replied: “We don’t really know. We hope for a positive outcome very quickly, but for the moment, there is not much in the way of a middle ground.”The 21-year-old second row from Pau was authorised, like his compatriot Oscar Jegou, who plays for La Rochelle, by the Argentinian justice system to return to France at the beginning of September while awaiting the legal consequences of his indictment for aggravated rape.

The two players are still being prosecuted for “gang rape” of a 39-year-old Argentinian woman who spent part of the night of July 6-7 in their hotel room in Mendoza, after a France XV test match. The Pau and La Rochelle residents acknowledge consensual sexual relations, but deny any violence. Their lawyers filed a request for dismissal on August 27, on which the Argentine courts are expected to render their decision soon.
