The abolition of state medical aid (AME) “is a very bad idea”reacted Wednesday, September 18 Rémi Salomon, president of the AP-HP Medical Establishment Conference. While among the ideas proposed on the right to reduce spending in the next budget, some LR are again proposing the elimination of AME, reserved for foreigners in an irregular situation, in favor of much more restricted emergency medical aid.

An idea that Rémi Salomon is totally opposed to. “for three reasons”he specifies. “First of all, ethically, it is not acceptable. In the Hippocratic oath, we treat everyone. There is no selection based on ethnic, social or economic considerations, we treat everyone. This is the first point and it is very strong.”

Secondly, “in terms of public health”, continues the president of the CME of the AP-HP. “A number of people may have communicable infectious diseases, and if we don’t treat them early, they will contaminate those around them.”

Finally, Rémi Salomon opposes the possible abolition of AME for one reason: “economic”. “Patients, if we don’t take care of them early, their health will deteriorate, they will arrive at the hospital in complicated situations with much more complex care, in hospitals that are sometimes under pressure.”

For all these reasons, the president of the CME of the AP-HP reiterates that “We, the caregivers, refuse to limit care”, without clearly stating that they will disobey. “We will do everything to care for and respect the Hippocratic oath.”
