TV Radar | Our suggestions of the week on your screens

Every week, The Press Look through the TV offering to find four titles to watch.

The safe bet

STAT

After five months of withdrawal, we thought we had tamed our addiction to STAT. After 30 seconds, we were hooked again. The third season of Marie-Andrée Labbé’s soap opera got off to a rare intense start last week. Isabelle’s (Geneviève Schmidt) cancer, Jacob’s (Lou-Pascal Tremblay) confessions, Emmanuelle’s (Suzanne Clément) rage… The four episodes were so dense that we jumped every time the closing credits appeared. When a half-hour feels like it lasts five minutes, it’s because we’re highly entertained. We’re still eager to find the little touch of humor that distinguishes and elevates the series.

ICI Télé, Monday to Thursday at 7 p.m.

It’s my business

PHOTO PROVIDED BY AMI-TELE

Camille Chai hosts It’s my business.

We admit it: despite its 10 seasons, we have never watched this service magazine which addresses disability, but since we recently discovered its presenter in Locker roomsa sketch comedy that can be seen on ICI Tou.tv Extra, promises to fill this gap. Led by Camille Chai, this show addresses, according to the press release, “captivating and relevant topics for everyone.” We have no doubt about it, since every time we watch AMI-Télé, a channel serving people who are blind, have reduced mobility or are hard of hearing, we don’t feel left behind. Two new collaborators for this 11e season: social worker Joannie Dupré-Roussel and Paralympic champion Benoît Huot.

AMI-TV, Saturday at 3 p.m.

Ryan Gosling in The Fall Guy

Several good popcorn movies have gone unnoticed on the big screen in early summer. The most surprising failure remains The Fall Guy (in French, The stuntman). Not only because it’s an entertaining action comedy, but because it stars Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt, who played key roles in the two biggest box office hits of 2023: the former in Barbiethe second in Oppenheimer. Our fellow film critic Pascal LeBlanc gave a score of 7.5/10 to the feature film by director David Leitch (Deadpool 2, Bullet Train), speaking of a “true love letter to action cinema”. We agree.

Good morning Chuck

Nicolas Pinson and Sylvain Marcel in Good Morning Chuck (or the art of harm reduction)

We haven’t had a look at the color version yet. Good Morning Chuck (or the art of harm reduction)which Noovo has been streaming for a week. But given that we loved the original in black and white offered on Crave for over a year, it’s hard to see how the addition of blue, green and orange could spoil the sauce. Directed by Jean-François Rivard (This is how I love you, The Invincibles) and Mathieu Cyr (Between the sea and the bark), this 10-episode comedy-drama depicts the descent into hell of a star presenter (played accurately by Nicolas Pinson) who suffers from a serious drug problem.

Noovo, Wednesday at 9 p.m.
