Communauto announced on Monday price adjustments that will come into effect on October 16. Depending on the package, hourly rates will increase by 3.9% to 6.3% for vehicles at stations.
The car sharing company’s rates consist of a subscription fee, a usage fee (per hour and per kilometer) and a refundable membership fee.
The annual subscription fees will remain the same for the different packages. It will still cost $45 per year for a Freedom Plus and Economy package, $150 for an Economy Plus package and $360 for an Economy Extra package. The Freedom package will remain free to subscribe to.
The refundable individual membership fee of $500 requested at the time of registration for one of the three packages in the Economy range will remain the same.
For vehicles at the station, however, hourly rates will increase from 3.9% for a Liberté package to 6.3% for a Liberté plus package.
The usage fee per kilometre will increase by 1¢ or 2¢, depending on the plan. It will remain the same for the Economy plan beyond the first 50 kilometres travelled.
As for rates for the operator’s FLEX service, which allows you to pick up and drop off a car at the curb, rates will increase by 1¢ per minute, to 41¢. Rates are capped at $13.25 per hour (+$0.50) and $50 per day (unchanged). Kilometric rates for FLEX cars will increase from 24¢ to 26¢. The first 75 kilometres of a FLEX trip are included.
In an email sent to its users Monday afternoon, the company specifies that “any trip that begins on or after October 16, 2024 will be billed at the new rates, while any trip that began before will be billed at the current rates.” The prices of gasoline and vehicle maintenance are included in the rates; taxes are calculated in addition.
