The Socialist Party MPs will not prevent the examination of the text, but will vote against its adoption

In a statement, they believe that the procedure is “doomed to failure” and that it could give a form of “legitimacy” to the head of state.

They give their approval, but not until the end of the procedure. The deputies of the Socialist Party decided, Monday, September 16, to vote in favor of the examination in committee of the LFI proposal for the dismissal of Emmanuel Macron, but will then vote against its adoption in the Assembly. In a statement, they believe that the procedure is “doomed to failure” and that it could give a form of “legitimacy” to the head of state.

Their choice, made after a debate of nearly three hours, should be formalized Tuesday morning by the socialist representatives at the bureau of the Assembly, its highest executive body. The NFP holds a small majority (12 seats out of 22), which should allow the text to pass this step. “Excellent news”commented on X the head of the LFI deputies Mathilde Panot, who had called for the examination to be carried out in the name of the “democratic debate” and of “popular sovereignty”.

But the final adoption of this text remains highly unlikely as it stands. The LFI deputies have filed a resolution aimed at initiating a procedure for the dismissal of the President of the Republic, signed by 81 deputies. Long and difficult to bring to fruition, it would ultimately require the approval of two-thirds of the parliamentarians of both chambers, meeting in the High Court.
