Carolina Panthers | Tough start to season: Bryce Young loses starting role

(Charlotte) The Carolina Panthers have decided to bench 2023 No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young after the second-year quarterback had a rough start to the season, The Associated Press has learned.

The source from the American agency requested anonymity since head coach Dave Canales has not yet met the media.

Andy Dalton would replace Young as the starter.

Young has completed just 31 of 56 passes for 244 yards and three interceptions in the Panthers’ two losses so far. The team has allowed 73 points to the New Orleans Saints and Los Angeles Chargers, to their 13. Young scored a rushing touchdown, the Panthers’ only touchdown of the season.

As a starter, Young is 2-16. The Panthers traded receiver DJ Moore and four draft picks to the Chicago Bears to improve their fortunes by eight spots in 2023 and get the young quarterback. One of the picks Chicago gave up was the first overall pick in 2024 after the Panthers finished last season with an NFL-worst 2-15 record.
