Stéphane Séjourné proposed by France to replace Thierry Breton as European Commissioner

Stéphane Séjourné would take the place of Thierry Breton who left his post as Commissioner for the Internal Market, after having been “disavowed”, according to him, by Ursula von der Leyen.

France was quick to react. On Monday 16 September, President Emmanuel Macron proposed his resigning Minister of Foreign Affairs Stéphane Séjourné as European Commissioner. “focused on the issues of industrial and technological sovereignty and European competitiveness”after the surprise resignation of Thierry Breton, announced the Elysée.

Stéphane Séjourné was “President of the Renew Group [centristes et libéraux] in the European Parliament during the previous legislature and meets all the required criteria. Its European commitment will allow it to fully support this sovereignty agenda”justifies the presidency.
