The man suspected of fatally stabbing his partner on Saturday in Cormontreuil, in the Marne, died from his injuries after attempting suicide, France Bleu Champagne-Ardenne reported on Monday, September 16. The man had stabbed his 46-year-old wife to death before turning the weapon on himself. He died the same evening as the murder.

According to the Reims prosecutor’s office, the 51-year-old man is suspected of having stabbed his partner several times in the bathroom of the couple’s home in the city centre of Cormontreuil, before seriously injuring himself. The woman died. The man did not survive his injuries after being taken to hospital in a critical condition. The couple’s two children, aged around ten, did not witness the scene.

The husband was not known to the justice services for acts of domestic violence. The couple were, however, known together to the justice system, for acts that were not “nothing to do with it”according to the Reims prosecutor, François Schneider. An investigation has been opened for murder of a spouse, specifies the Reims prosecutor’s office. As part of this investigation, the autopsies of the two bodies will take place on Tuesday, September 17.
