Slovenian Tadej Pogacar won the Montreal Grand Prix on Sunday for the second time in three years.
Pogacar, world number 1, completely dropped the competition with a lap and a half to go, on the penultimate climb of the Camillien-Houde hill.
The UAE Team Emirates cyclist completed the 209.1 kilometres in five hours, 28 minutes and 15 seconds (5h 28m 15s).
His closest pursuer, Spaniard Pello Bilbao (Bahrain-Victorious) was 24 seconds behind. Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe (Soudal-QuickStep) completed the podium, winning third place in a sprint, 40 seconds behind the winner.
Michael Woods (Israel-Premier Tech) was the top Canadian, finishing eighth in the sprint for third place in the standings. He thus equaled his best performance at the Grand Prix Cycliste de Montréal, achieved in 2019.
This is a third consecutive victory for UAE Team Emirates, after the crowning of Adam Yates last year and Pogacar in 2022. The Slovenian thus becomes only the second cyclist to achieve a double on the Avenue du Parc, after the Belgian Greg van Avermaet (2016 and 2019).
