Tens of thousands of fake disabled parking cards are circulating in France. On Friday, September 13, a large-scale inspection operation was carried out.
On the morning of Friday, September 13, the police keep an eye on windshields and parking cards for people with reduced mobility. An able-bodied driver uses a genuine card wrongly: she risks a fine of 1,500 euros but gets away with a warning. At the next check, another driver uses a fake card to benefit from free parking. She faces up to 5 years in prison and a fine of 75,000 euros. Half of the people checked that morning were in violation.
The mobility inclusion card is reserved for people who have difficulty getting around. It must be issued by the authorities, but they are sold on the Internet without any proof. This complicates travel for people with motor disabilities. While champion Philippe Croizon is calling for more checks, others are calling for more places than the 2% currently provided for by law.
