Violinist denied boarding because of size of instrument

Violinist Esther Abrami was supposed to go to Berlin. But when she arrived at Marignane airport in Marseille, things didn’t go as planned. When she was about to board, she was forbidden from taking her violin as cabin baggage. Her instrument was one centimetre larger than the passenger’s. Ryanair remains very strict on its cabin baggage policy.

The musician explains that her violin is 200 years old, fragile and expensive, and that she cannot put it in the hold. But the airline refuses all offers. She ends by explaining that she was able to book a last-minute ticket with another company, on the same day. The violinist explains that she has traveled several times with the company and has had no problem getting her instrument on board.
