The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) confirmed on Thursday 12 September that three of its employees were killed and two others injured in Ukraine by a strike attributed to the Russian army by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. “I condemn in the strongest terms the attacks on Red Cross staff. It is unacceptable that bombings could hit an aid distribution site.”said ICRC President Mirjana Spoljaric.
The ICRC team “was preparing to distribute wood” In “the village of Viroliubivka, north of the town of Donestk”explains a press release. “ICRC teams are regularly present in the Donetsk region and our vehicles are clearly marked with the Red Cross emblem”the organization continues.
She also recalls that “The deaths of three ICRC colleagues come amid a sharp increase in the number of humanitarian workers killed worldwide over the past two years”.
