A strong endorsement. American pop megastar Taylor Swift announced on Tuesday, September 10, following the debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris, that she would vote for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the presidential election. “She fights for the causes and rights I believe in.”she said on Instagram.
“As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about policies and programs for the country” of the two candidates, the singer explained, adding about Kamala Harris: “I think she is a gifted and strong leader.” His post garnered over a million likes in less than 15 minutes.
With her status as a global star, and fans known for their ardor in defending her on social networks, her stance was highly anticipated. Having remained silent in 2016, during the presidential election won by Donald Trump, she ended up supporting Democratic candidates in the 2018 legislative elections in her state of Tennessee to oppose a very conservative Republican elected official, Marsha Blackburn.
Taylor Swift went on to endorse Joe Biden in 2020 and champion messages of openness towards LGBT+ communities in her songs, also condemning the decision of the US Supreme Court, with a conservative majority, to overturn the guarantee of the right to abortion at the federal level in the United States.
