The Marseille police prefect, “on the instructions of the Minister of the Interior”suspended the order to close the Bleuets mosque, “since it complies with state requirements”he announced in a statement. He will remain “extremely vigilant about respecting these commitments over time”.

The imam of the Bleuets mosque in Marseille announced his temporary withdrawal on Monday, in particular to allow him to train in secularism. The Bleuets mosque has been targeted since August 20 by a closure procedure launched by the Bouches-du-Rhône prefecture, at the request of the resigning Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin, in particular due to “words legitimizing violence”.

Imam Ismail, whose real name is Smaïn Bendjilali, was taken into custody on September 3 and was released with a summons to appear before the criminal court. He is accused in particular of having reposted publications which, according to the prosecution, advocate terrorism. He will be tried on October 3.
