In the Gaza Strip, the Al-Mawasi humanitarian zone is a coastal strip of land where the displaced people of the enclave are supposed to be safe. However, the place was struck on the night of Monday 9 to Tuesday 10 September by Israel. The Gaza Civil Defense announced 40 people killed and 60 wounded. The Israeli army justifies these bombings. “The operation (…) targeted senior Hamas members who had been directly involved, personally, in the October 7 massacres in Israel” explains Olivier Rafowicz, spokesman for the Israeli army.
Some civilians interviewed deny the presence of Hamas militants. “There are no fighters here, only displaced people”says a man. In July 2024, this area had already been targeted. According to Israel, it was in this region that Mohammed Deif, the military leader of Hamas, was eliminated.
