A five-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being hit by a vehicle along with a 63-year-old man while crossing the street Monday morning in Montreal.
The collision occurred around 8 a.m. on 81st Avenue, in the Pointe-aux-Trembles district.
“According to preliminary information, the two pedestrians, the 63-year-old man and the five-year-old child, were on the west side of 81st Avenue. The vehicle was travelling south on 81st Avenue,” explained officer Antony Dorélas, who is a spokesperson for the Montreal Police Department (SPVM).
“The two pedestrians were trying to cross the street, from west to east, and that’s when the collision occurred,” he said.
Shortly before 10 a.m., the SPVM reported that the child’s life was in danger. The police force was still awaiting an update on the health of the 63-year-old man, who was conscious when he was transported to the hospital.
The driver of the vehicle involved was also taken to hospital to be treated for shock.
A security perimeter has been set up to allow investigators to analyze the evidence and understand the circumstances surrounding this event.
