The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Monday, September 9, rejected accusations by Western countries that Tehran had supplied weapons to Russia for the war in Ukraine. “We categorically reject the claims,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani said at his weekly briefing.

On Monday, a spokesman for the European Union (EU) diplomatic service, Peter Stano, estimated that the allies had‘credible information’ on the delivery of ballistic missiles by Iran to Russia. The European Union will respond swiftly and in coordination with its international partners, including by taking significant new restrictive measures against Iran.”he had specified.

The Kremlin has not denied that Iran is supplying it with missiles, noting that Russia is developing its relations with Tehran as it sees fit, particularly in the areas “the most sensitive”. Nasser Kanani, however, reaffirmed Iran’s position by declaring that his country was not a “stakeholder” in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Allied countries Iran and Russia have accelerated their rapprochement in the economic, energy and military fields since the start of the war in Ukraine in February 2022 and the imposition of sanctions against Russia by many Western countries.
