Typhoon Yagi Death Toll Rises to 59 in Vietnam

Some 1.5 million people were still without electricity on Monday.

Typhoon Yagi has killed 59 people in northern Vietnam, according to a new report released Monday, September 9 by official media. “As of noon on September 9, the number of people killed due to Typhoon Yagi stood at 59, including 44 killed in landslides and flash floods.”reported the VNEXpress website.

The storm, which made landfall in Quang Ninh and Haiphong provinces on Saturday before weakening on Sunday, caused bridges to collapse, damaged factories and ripped tin roofs off homes, with gusts exceeding 149 km/h. Some 1.5 million people were still without power on Monday.

Some 130 locations in 17 cities and provinces across Vietnam are at high risk of flooding and landslides, according to disaster management authorities.
