Record four-year contract | Dak Prescott signs with Cowboys for $240 million

Dak Prescott has signed a new contract with the Dallas Cowboys, hours before their season opener in Cleveland.

The star quarterback and the Cowboys have agreed to terms on a record four-year contract worth $240 million, the first in NFL history with an average of $60 million per year.

The NFL MVP finalist was entering the final year of a four-year, $160 million contract. It was a team-record deal before the new deal. Prescott will make $231 million guaranteed.

Prescott has led the Cowboys to the playoffs the past three seasons and five times in his first eight. But the Dallas squad is still looking for a deep playoff run, with its last of five Super Bowl titles coming in 1995.

The 31-year-old has repeatedly said he wants to stay with the Cowboys and be the quarterback who helps the club reach the National Conference Finals for the first time in 29 years. Now Prescott will have that opportunity.
