A municipal employee died after being seriously injured by gunfire on Sunday, September 8 in Grenoble (Isère). The events took place following a traffic accident in front of the town hall, according to the city’s public prosecutor, Eric Vaillant. The police are currently working to identify the shooter. The Grenoble city officer was shot twice in the chest and arm, according to a police source at France Télévisions.

According to the same source, the author of the shots was the driver of an Audi, who violently hit a Peugeot 208, before trying to leave the scene of the accident. The town hall employee thus had a verbal altercation with the driver of the Peugeot 208 to try to dissuade him from leaving the scene, without success. As he left, the driver of the Audi opened fire on the employee, about fifteen meters away, according to a police source.

“Today, the entire public service is hurt”said the city of Grenoble in a statement released before the announcement of the officer’s death. “The city stands alongside all Grenoble public officials who have been deeply affected by this tragedy” And “will open a psychological monitoring unit tomorrow”the city hall said.
