Cycling continues to smile on the French clan. After the harvest of time trials and road races, the French team went for a new gold medal in the mixed relay event (category H1-5), Saturday, September 7, 2024, in Clichy-sous-Bois. The three relay runners Mathieu Bosredon, Florian Jouanny and Joseph Fritsch, all individual medalists, led the race on the six 1.8-kilometer loops and finished well ahead of the other teams entered (24’12). The podium was completed by Italy (+1’03) and the United States (+1’38). Three years after the silver in Tokyo, the French team won the most beautiful metal in France won the most beautiful metal. This is the 18th title for the French delegation.
As is often the case in paracycling events, the Blues went it alone. With the exception of Mathieu Bosredon’s first relay, which opened the way for the tricolour trio, the French always took the lead by posting the best time and keeping their opponents at a good distance. The last relay runner, Joseph Fritsch, ensured on the final loop to offer the Blues this team title to the applause of the supporters.
With this success, Mathieu Bosredon wins his third Paralympic title in these Games, after the H3 individual time trial and the H3 road race. Already bronze medalist in the H2 individual time trial, Florian Jouanny wins his second medal of these Games, while Joseph Fritsch opens his counter.
