Overjoyed after his victory in the small final, the 48-year-old athlete, who is deaf and blind, ignited the crowd at the Arena Champ-de-Mars on Saturday.
A huge champion. Ving years after his title in Athens, judoka Cyril Jonard won the Paralympic bronze on Saturday, September 7, at the end of his small final won by ippon against Uzbek Turgun Abdiev in the under 90 kg (J1, visually impaired). Enough to complete his collection of medals, while he had taken silver in Beijing.
Suffering from blindness and deafness, the 48-year-old Frenchman was carried by the public of the Arena Champ-de-Mars, whose vibrations he felt. Euphoric in an interview, he thanked the stands by haranguing them and offering them a few dance steps. “First, second or third, it’s great! I’m not going to cry but I’m very happy. It’s fabulous,” he reacted alongside his coach Jason Guillot, before greeting his family and his native Limousin. At the end of the medal ceremony, the French judoka took a lap of honour.
