A musical about the life of Paul Anka could see the light of day

Paul Anka has his eyes set on Broadway.

The 83-year-old Ottawa-born singer says his plans to adapt his life story into a musical are finally gaining momentum after years of work behind the scenes.

Although he wouldn’t go into detail, he said the show will trace his rise from teen idol to his forays into the “Rat Pack,” where he helped write the song My Way by Frank Sinatra, before going on to garner his own solo hits, including Diana.

Songs like these would punctuate the musical in style Jersey Boys in which two actors would play Anka, as a teenager and an adult.

Anka first hinted at plans for a musical centered on his life more than 15 years ago, but he says Broadway has become a tougher business in recent years.

He will attend the Toronto International Film Festival with the documentary Paul Anka: His Waywhich will have its world premiere on Tuesday. It will also be screened on Wednesday and Friday.
