He is the oldest Prime Minister of the Fifth Republic, succeeding the youngest, Gabriel Attal. The latter does not hide his “frustration” during his speech during the transfer of power: “Eight months is short, it’s too short. And I won’t hide it, there is frustration in leaving my position after only eight months.”
On the substance, Michel Barnier promises to listen to everyone in the unstable period that is beginning: “It will be a question of responding as much as we can to the challenges, to the anger, and finally, there will have to be respect for all political forces.” The mission is looking more than delicate. It is now up to him to form a government and show the way to a coalition that has been elusive until now.
