COVID-19: vaccination accessible to 35-year-olds

Quebecers aged 35 and over are invited as of this Wednesday to make an appointment to receive their third dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

A few days ago, the Ministry of Health and Social Services accelerated the schedule for making appointments so that as many people as possible could get a third dose quickly in the face of the outbreak of the highly contagious variant. Omicron.

Next Friday, January 14, people aged 25 and over can make an appointment. Starting next Monday, January 17, all Quebecers aged 18 or over will be able to take the steps to be inoculated.

Quebec has been facing for several days a sharp increase in the number of people hospitalized because of a COVID-19 infection. As of Tuesday, the total number of hospitalizations stood at 2,742, 188 more than the day before.

Overloading hospitalizations and overloading are depriving more and more patients of a surgical intervention, which can put their health at risk.

Last week, two projection models selected by the National Institute of Excellence in Health and Social Services (INESSS) continued to forecast a growth in new hospitalizations linked to COVID-19 in Quebec.

For regular beds, projections suggested that in two weeks, occupancy by these patients could exceed 3,000 beds, less than 300 than the number calculated on Tuesday, while around 20,000 healthcare workers are currently absent.
