Republican Liz Cheney endorses Kamala Harris

(Washington) Former Republican Representative Liz Cheney said Wednesday night that she is endorsing Kamala Harris for the U.S. presidency, ending weeks of speculation.

She made the announcement at an event at Duke University. In a video posted on the social network X, she spoke of the “danger” that Donald Trump poses to the United States.

“As a conservative and as someone who believes in and cares about the Constitution, I have thought deeply about this issue. Because of the danger that Donald Trump poses, not only will I not vote for him, I will vote for Kamala Harris,” she said.

The president of M’s campaignme Harris’s nominee, Jen O’Malley Dillon, said in a statement that “the Vice President is proud to secure Congresswoman Cheney’s vote.” “She is a patriot who loves this country and puts our democracy and Constitution first.”

Mme Cheney, who co-chaired the House inquiry into the Jan. 6, 2021, assault on the Capitol, has become a fierce critic of Mr. Trump. As a result, she was ousted in the 2022 Republican primary in Wyoming.

The daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, Liz Cheney has followed other Republicans, such as her former member of the January 6 Committee, former Rep. Adam Kinzinger, and former Rep. Denver Riggleman, in supporting Kamala Harris.

More than 200 former members of the Bush administration and the former Republican presidential campaigns of John McCain and Mitt Romney have also announced their support for Ms.me Harris last week.

Mme Cheney was part of the House Republican leadership team at the time of the Jan. 6 attack, but she broke with most of her caucus over Trump’s responsibility. She lost her leadership position and was one of the few Republican figures to agree to serve on the Jan. 6 Commission, appointed by Democrats who controlled the House at the time.
