The threat has come to fruition. Eighty deputies from the New Popular Front (NFP) have signed a proposed resolution aimed at dismissing Emmanuel Macron, announced La France Insoumise, which initiated this move, on Wednesday, September 4. In detail, the text is signed by the 72 Insoumis deputies, five ecologist elected officials (Benjamin Lucas, Sandrine Rousseau, Clémentine Autain, Hendrik Davi, Danielle Simonnet), and three elected officials from the Democratic and Republican Left group (Frédéric Maillot, Karine Lebon, Emeline K/Bidi).

“Faced with President Emmanuel Macron’s refusal to appoint a Prime Minister from the coalition that came out on top in the legislative elections of July 7, The authors of this motion for a resolution wish that Parliament initiate impeachment proceedings against the President of the Republicthe deputies explain. Indeed, this refusal is an unprecedented case in the history of our last two Republics. It is unequalled in any of the nations of the European Union which everywhere entrusts the first party, even a minority one, with the task of forming their government.” They also denounce a “This coup is unprecedented in the history of the institutions of the French Republic since 1877.”

The impeachment procedure must follow a long process framed by article 68 of the Constitution. The next delicate step will be the passage through the office of the National Assembly to verify that the proposal is admissible.
