Steelers | Three-year contract for tackle Cam Heyward

(Pittsburgh) The Pittsburgh Steelers have signed tackle Cam Heyward to a new three-year contract.

Financial details of the contract were not disclosed. The agreement will run through the end of the 2026 season.

Heyward, 35, was about to finish the final year of his previous contract. He had expressed interest in extending his contract with the Steelers beyond the 2024 season this offseason, but added that he was willing to test free agency next winter if he wasn’t satisfied with the Steelers’ offer.

The two sides finally reached an agreement just days before the start of the NFL season.

Heyward was drafted in the first round by the Steelers in 2011. He was named the defensive captain for a 10e times in 14 seasons, becoming only the third player in team history to reach that milestone.

He was limited to 11 games and just two sacks in 2023 due to injuries. He hopes to return this season to the level that made him one of the best players in the league at applying pressure on the quarterback in the middle of the defensive line.

Heyward enters the 2024 season with 80.5 sacks, the most by a Steelers tackle and the ninth-most in NFL history by a center defensive lineman.
