After a 24-hour delay, the passengers of Space X’s Crew Dragon capsule are preparing to perform an extra-vehicular activity on August 27. It will be the first ever carried out by a private crew led by an American billionaire. Analysis.
As the Crew Dragon passengers prepare to carry out an extra-vehicular activity on August 27, what are the risks of such a mission? “The four crew members will go far, very far, up to 1,400 meters above sea level, which is three and a half times higher than the space station. Above all, they will do a spacewalk, and it’s a first for private citizens, but they are not amateurs.”explains Nicolas Chateauneuf, a science journalist who is on the 8pm news set. On board are a test pilot, a space engineer and doctor, a second space engineer and a billionaire who has already flown with Space X.
How will this release take place? “The capsule has no airlock, once the hatch is opened, all four crew members will be subjected to the vacuum of space”the journalist explains. 45 hours before the release, they will gradually breathe pure oxygen to prevent the formation of gas bubbles in their blood.
