(Toronto) Canada’s main stock index was down more than 300 points late Tuesday morning, weighed down by declines in the energy and base metals sectors, while U.S. stock markets also fell.
The S&P/TSX composite index fell 315.46 points to 23,030.72.
In New York, the Dow Jones industrial average fell 452.06 points to 41,111.02. The S&P 500 index lost 78.41 points to 5,569.99, while the NASDAQ composite index fell 392.69 points to 17,320.93.
The Canadian dollar was trading at 73.80 US cents compared to 74.12 US cents on Friday.
On the New York Commodity Exchange, crude oil prices fell $2.75 to $70.80 a barrel, and natural gas prices rose one cent to $2.14 per million BTU.
The gold contract was down $16.00 at $2,511.60 an ounce and the copper contract was down 13 cents at $4.08 a pound.
