The Edmonton Oilers settled a major matter Tuesday morning, agreeing to terms on an eight-year contract with Leon Draisaitl.
The star forward will pocket an average of $14 million per season starting in the 2025-26 campaign.
“This is a historic day for the Oilers,” Oilers general manager and vice-president of hockey operations Stan Bowman said in a statement.
“Leon’s commitment to our team, our city and Oilers fans around the world cannot be overstated. His desire to help bring the Stanley Cup back to Edmonton is at the heart of everything he does, both on and off the ice.”
Draisaitl is one of the best players in Oilers franchise history. Last season, he had 41 goals and 65 assists for 106 points in 81 games. He continued the work in the playoffs, scoring 10 goals and 21 assists in 25 games; the club ultimately reached the Stanley Cup Final for the first time in 18 years.
