A dozen migrants died trying to reach England, off the coast of Boulogne-sur-Mer

Several other migrants are in very serious condition after their clandestine boat broke up, the maritime prefecture announced on Tuesday.

The Manche Maritime Prefecture announced on Tuesday, September 3, that around ten people had died when a boat attempting to cross to the United Kingdom sank. Several other migrants are in a very serious condition after their clandestine boat broke up off the coast of Boulogne-sur-Mer (Pas-de-Calais), it said. A few minutes earlier, it had announced five deaths, specifying that this was a total “provisional”This is the deadliest shipwreck since the beginning of the year, which has already seen 25 people lose their lives in these crossings since January.

A ship chartered by the State, the Minckhad spotted the boat in difficulty with more than 60 people on board and went to its aid as soon as it broke up, announced the ship’s lieutenant, Etienne Baggio.
