In Israel, protesters are demanding that the government reach an agreement to release Israeli hostages held in Gaza. A call for a general strike has been launched on Monday, September 2.

On Sunday evening, September 1, hundreds of thousands of people demonstrated in the streets of Tel Aviv (Israel). Police and protesters clashed and barricades were set ablaze. “We have no more time, we ask the government to stop everything and make an agreement”claims Yair Keshet, uncle of hostage Yarden Bibas. Earlier in the day, in Jerusalem, the building where the cabinet meeting was being held was surrounded.

The protesters are demanding that an agreement be reached to secure the release of the hundred hostages still being held in Gaza. In order to force the government of Benjamin Netanyahu to give in, the powerful Histadrut union has declared a general strike on Monday, September 2. “We must put an end to the abandonment of hostages, that an agreement does not progress due to political considerations, it is unacceptable”assures Aman Bar David, head of La Histradout.
