The 19-year-old man suspected of having knocked down a seven-year-old girl on Thursday evening while doing wheelies on his motorbike in Vallauris Golfe-Juan (Alpes-Maritimes), seriously injuring her, has been charged and placed under judicial supervision, contrary to the demands of the prosecution who had requested that he be placed in pre-trial detention, the Grasse prosecution announced in a press release.

The young man’s police custody was lifted on Saturday, the prosecution added, in order to be brought before a judicial investigation for “unintentional injuries resulting in total incapacity for work for more than three months” with “manifestly deliberate violation of a particular obligation of safety or prudence”.

“The prosecution has issued orders for provisional detention, is specified in the press release. After having charged him with the aforementioned facts, the judge of liberties and detention decided to place the person concerned under judicial supervision.

The suspect will be prohibited from appearing in Vallauris, from leaving the Alpes-Maritimes department, and he will have to report once every two weeks to the Antibes police station, without coming into contact with the victim of the offence, his parents, brothers and sisters, and hand over his driving licence to the court. The prosecution has indicated that it will appeal this decision.

This 7-year-old girl was hit by a motorbike on Thursday evening in Vallauris (Alpes-Maritimes), and is still in hospital in a serious condition. The driver was speeding up a line of cars on his motorbike around 7pm when he hit the girl, who was crossing a pedestrian crossing with her 11-year-old brother. Her front wheel was up at the time of the incident. The girl was then thrown about ten metres. The girl, whose prognosis is in danger, was placed in an artificial coma at Nice hospital on Thursday.
