Eric Ciotti announced on Saturday, August 31, that he would create his own party, which will be called the Union of the Right for the Republic. The man who is still officially president of the Les Républicains party is making his political comeback in his stronghold of Levens in the Alpes-Maritimes.

Union of the Right for the Republic: the acronym of this new party is therefore UDR, like the Union of Democrats for the Republic, a movement founded in 1967 to support General De Gaulle. This new UDR version 2024 will have the ambition, explains Eric Ciotti, to bring together “all the rights”. “The Les Républicains brand is today outdated, discredited by its defeats, its contradictions, its lack of courage. In order to reconnect with victory, I propose that we rebuild our political family”he said during a speech to activists.

“I have a strong conviction: the Union of the Right for the Republic must establish itself permanently in the government of France and guide our political life (…) Today, the UDR is reborn!”he cried.

In June, Eric Ciotti announced an electoral alliance between his party and the National Rally during the early legislative election campaign. This decision caused a split within the party, between the Ciottists and LR “historical channel”, whose parliamentary group was named the Republican Right.
