Italian Grand Prix | Lando Norris to start in the lead at Monza

(Monza) Lando Norris dominated qualifying ahead of the Italian Formula 1 Grand Prix as he continues to attempt to catch Max Verstappen at the top of the drivers’ standings.


The front row will be orange on Sunday at Monza as Norris edged out McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri by 109 thousandths of a second in qualifying.

Verstappen, meanwhile, had to settle for seventh. The reigning triple world champion has a 70-point lead over Norris with nine races remaining on the calendar.

The top six drivers were separated by less than two-tenths of a second during the final segment of qualifying on Saturday.

Mercedes’ George Russell moved into third ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz.

Lewis Hamilton will start sixth in his final race at Monza as a Mercedes driver. He will join Ferrari next season.

Verstappen’s Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez finished eighth.

Quebec driver Lance Stroll of Aston Martin was eliminated in the first segment of qualifying for a third year in a row at Monza. He had to settle for 17the rank. His teammate Fernando Alonso ranked 11the.
