Seven departments on France’s Atlantic coast placed on orange alert for storms

Seven departments on the Atlantic coast were placed on orange alert for storms on Saturday, August 31, before the early evening. Charente-Maritime, Vendée, Loire-Atlantique and Morbihan join the Pyrénées-Atlantiques, Landes and Gironde, which have been in this situation since midday. “Storms are currently developing over Castile-Leon (Spain): they will reach the Basque Country in the late afternoon/evening and then the Atlantic coast. (…) The event has not yet started in the country”the forecasters write in their bulletin.

An extension to neighboring departments is possible, notes Météo-France, which invites residents to “keep informed of the development of vigilance”.

“At the end of this Saturday afternoon, a storm system is forming over the northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, then moving northwards and will affect the Atlantic coast on Saturday evening and the night from Saturday to Sunday.”Météo-France alert.

For Sunday, five departments are on orange alert: Morbihan, Loire-Atlantique, Vendée, Charente-Maritime and Gironde.
