Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (VF: Betelgeuse Betelgeuse)
The opening film of the Venice Film Festival, presented out of competition, this sequel to the 1988 cult film sees the return of Michael Keaton, Catherine O’Hara and Winona Ryder as Beetlejuice, Delia and Lydia. In this 20e Tim Burton’s film is Rory (Justin Theroux), husband of Lydia and stepfather of Astrid (Jenna Ortega, star of the Netflix series Wednesday director), which opens the portal to the afterlife, freeing Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice’s ex-wife Delores (Monica Bellucci) and a ghost hunter, Wolf Jackson (Willem Dafoe), will then enter the scene. Seth Grahame-Smith has reportedly been working on the script since 2012…

Speak No Evil (VF: Don’t say anything)
Remake of the film by Danes Christian and Mads Tafdrup released in 2022, Speak No Evil tells the story of the friendship between two couples who met on holiday abroad. Shortly afterwards, Paddy (James McAvoy) and Ciara (Aisling Franciosi), parents of a little boy born without a tongue, invite Ben (Scoot McNairy) and Louise (Mackenzie Davis), parents of a little girl, to spend a few days at their country house. The stay soon turns into a nightmare when the hosts adopt increasingly inappropriate behaviour towards their guests. A psychological thriller that flirts with the horror of James Watkins (Eden Lake, The Woman in Black).

Adaptation of The night female dogthe first novel by American Rachel Yoder published in 2021, this horror comedy by actress and director Marielle Heller (Diary of a Teenage Girl) stars Amy Adams as an unusual woman. Having taken a break from work to be a stay-at-home mom, an artist finds that caring for her 2-year-old son is cutting her off from the outside world, while her husband (Scoot McNairy) is always away traveling for work. Alone and exhausted, she feels like some nights she’s not the same. Could she be losing her mind?

Nosferatu
After Werner Herzog (1979), it is the turn of Robert Eggers (The Witch, The Lighthouse, The Northman) to revisit the Nosferatu (1922) by FW Murnau, inspired by Draculaan epistolary novel by Bram Stoker. Terrifying as Pennywise in It And It: Chapter Twoby Andy Muschietti, Bill Skarsgård this time lends his features to the monstrous Count Orlok. Lily-Rose Depp, Emma Corrin, Nicholas Hoult, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Willem Dafoe are also in the cast. Let us recall that in Shadow of a Vampire (2000), by E. Elias Merhige, which recounted the shooting of Murnau’s film, Dafoe played Max Schreck, the actor who played Count Orlok.
