The American and Iraqi armies carried out a raid on Thursday, August 29, against the Islamic State group in western Iraq and killed 15 jihadist fighters, the American military command for the Middle East (Centcom) announced Friday. According to a statement published on X, the terrorists “were equipped with numerous weapons, grenades and explosive belts.”

There is no indication that there were any civilian casualties.”Centcom said. The operation “targeted Islamic State leaders in order to disrupt and undermine the terrorist group’s ability to plan, organize, and carry out attacks against civilians in Iraq and against U.S. citizens, allies, and partners in the region and beyond.”added the US military command.

Seven American soldiers were injured in the operation, but are “in stable condition”a Centcom official reported. The U.S. command says the Iraqi military “continue exploring the raid location”without giving further details on the operation. The Islamic State group “remains a threat to the region, our allies and our national territory”the US military further estimated.
