LR members are threatening to demand between two and three million euros from Éric Ciotti, the party’s president, according to information revealed by franceinfo on Saturday, August 31. This is the damage that these Republicans believe they have suffered because of the alliance concluded between their president and the National Rally at the beginning of June, after the dissolution of the National Assembly.

To arrive at this amount, the party treasurer, who does not confirm this figure, added in particular donations from activists that Éric Ciotti is accused of having pocketed for his micro-party (“Les Amis d’Eric Ciotti”) and the shortfall in state subsidies. With only 47 deputies elected in July, the LR consider themselves aggrieved. With fewer elected deputies, the LR have fewer public subsidies.

While a right-wing baron confided to franceinfo: “We will go all the way”Laurent Wauquiez, president of the Republican Right group in the National Assembly, is leaning towards a more peaceful solution so as not to once again display divisions in the public arena. “Things will fall into place by themselves”predicts his entourage. Otherwise, justice will decide from mid-October. As a reminder, it is already seized of this case and must decide whether Éric Ciotti can keep the presidency of the LR. A hearing is scheduled for October 14.

Eric Ciotti is making his political comeback on Saturday in the south of France. The leader of the new “Right” group in the Assembly is due to give a speech to 2,000 to 3,000 activists in Levens, north of Nice, in the Alpes-Maritimes, his electoral stronghold. Eric Ciotti has already warned that he will not announce his departure from the LR.
