Free screening for sexually transmitted infections without prescription from September 1 for under-26s

The measure is called “my STI test”. From Sunday, September 1, those under 26 will be able to get tested free of charge and without a prescription for four sexually transmitted infections, in addition to HIV, which was already reimbursed, the Ministry of Health said on Friday, August 30, in accordance with what had been announced.

This system will be deployed in all medical biology laboratories. It was announced in September 2022 and included in the Social Security financing bill for 2023, against a backdrop of an increase in STIs between 2021 and 2023. Covered 100% for those under 26, this screening will be covered at 60% for the rest of the population (with the co-payment covered by responsible health insurance).

When the patient comes, they wish to benefit from screening will fill out a self-questionnaire designed to determine the STIs to be screened. This will include, in addition to HIV, the following infections: chlamydia trachomatis, gonococcus, syphilis and hepatitis B. In the event of a positive result for one or more STIs, the medical biologist will refer the patient to the most appropriate health professionals.
