Hospitals are hit hard by the Omicron variant. During the last week of December 2021, more than half of hospitalizations (54%) were due to the variant. 19% of cases were admitted to intensive care. The length of hospitalizations also differs. “They are much shorter for Omicron”, says Bruno Megarbane, head of the intensive care unit at the hospital Lariboisiere in Paris.
For scientists, however, it is still too early to be reassuring, because the wave of the delta variant is not yet over. Moreover, a laboratory had modeled different models to predict the possible hypotheses facing Omicron. However, we have gone beyond the most pessimistic theory with a number of cases greater than the fixed model.
