Polo or shirt? Blue? White? Grey? A few days before the start of the school year, families will collect the uniforms of students in 90 establishments in France, including “70 schools”, according to the figures of the resigning Minister of National Education and Youth, Nicole Belloubet. This is an experiment of the single outfit in schools, for two school years. The different establishments were able to choose the model of their uniform, always free for families. Overview, thanks to the information collected by the different local branches of France Bleu.
Balma (Haute-Garonne)
In Balma, a town east of Toulouse in Haute-Garonne, the choice fell on a white polo shirt and a grey sweater for theSaint-Exupéry and José-Cabanis primary schools. Basic clothing, with the school’s logo printed on the left chest. For the bottom, children are free to wear whatever they want as long as it is blue. Trousers, shorts or skirts: anything is possible, but leggings are forbidden.
Chateaurenard (Bouches-du-Rhône)
The 1,150 students at the Jean-d’Ormesson high school in Châteaurenard, in the Bouches-du-Rhône, have received their mandatory polo shirts. Navy blue, they were made in Nice, in 100% cotton. They come in long-sleeved and short-sleeved versions and come with sweatshirts. Families will need to purchase navy blue pants. A sober and discreet version of the unique outfit.
Marseille and Orgon (Bouches-du-Rhône)
For college Mont-Sauvy at Orgon, the uniforms will all be the same color. On the other hand, at college Forbin Castle Marseille, students will be able to choose, each day between navy blue, blue and gray. Copies of the different colors have been distributed. The clothes are flocked with the name of the establishment, with also the logo of the Department. As for the bottom, it was not possible to propose a single outfit for budgetary reasons, but the establishments recommend a “suitable attire”.
Crepy-en-Valois (Oise) and Halluin (North)
Two establishments in Hauts-de-France will experiment with the uniform for 700 teenagers from the Robert-Desnos vocational high schools in Crépy-en-Valois, in the Oise, and Antoine-de-Saint-Exupéry in Halluin, in the North. Local uniforms: they were entirely made in the Somme, by the Atelier Avre Luce Noye, in Moreuil, with fabric also made in Picardy, from the Malterre knitting factory. Here again, blue was chosen, combined with gray tones and a white logo.
Florange (Moselle)
Two schools in the city of Florange will test the unique outfit, in the form of a blouse, a black, blue and white overshirt with the city’s emblem and flocking for each establishment (Victor-Hugo and André-Chénier). Two blouses, one for winter and one lighter for summer, have been made. All models feature the three colours of the French flag on the sleeve. The overshirts must remain at school outside of class hours.
Metz (Moselle)
In Metz, everyone has their own color: a red and blue blouse for nursery school students, another blue and yellow for primary school students. In total, six schools in the city are participating in the experiment. The overshirts close with snaps for ease of use and the sleeves can be rolled up in case of heat. They were entirely designed and manufactured by companies in Lorraine. The students will leave them at school during the week and take them home to wash them on weekends. In case of forgetfulness, a spare blouse will remain available in the school.
Labastide-Cézéracq and Labastide-Monréjeau (Pyrenees-Atlantic)
The schools in both villages are the only ones in Nouvelle-Aquitaine to experiment with compulsory uniforms. In Labastide-Cézéracq and Labastide-Monréjeau, nursery school pupils will wear smocks, while primary school pupils will be given polo shirts and sweatshirts.
Limoges (Haute-Vienne)
The uniform will be tested starting this Monday at the Henri-Aigueperse school in Limoges, a school with 200 students in the REP zone, Priority Education Network. A white polo shirt, a zipped jacket, but also pants and even jogging pants for sports: the parents of students voted to obtain a complete outfit, 100% made in France.
Nice (Alpes-Maritimes)
Short and long sleeve polo shirts, T-shirts, jackets and sweatshirts: the uniform allows several variations for the students of the Alphonse-Daudet college in Nice. For the color, blue and white, without forgetting the logo of the establishment on the chest. Here again, the manufacturing was entrusted to a local company.
Perols (Hérault)
Children from CP to CM2 at La Guette primary school in Pérols, near Montpellier, will wear a uniform. The kit distributed to families includes short-sleeved and long-sleeved t-shirts and polo shirts, sweatshirts, sweaters and vests. On the city’s logo, flocked on the clothes, we can see a pink flamingo. This is a wish of the families expressed during a vote between this bird and the drawing of a bull.
Perpignan (Pyrenees-Orientales)
In Perpignan, the 600 schoolchildren of the Alembert school group will be involved in the experiment of the single outfit from the start of the school year. Simple color and models: the clothes are navy blue and feature part of the city’s coat of arms, the Catalan flag and a burst of light to recall the name “Perpignan-La Rayonnante”. However, religious references have disappeared from the coat of arms, in line with the wishes of the parents’ unions.
Reims (Marne)
Five elementary schools will start the school year with uniforms in Reims. The logo on the different outfits was designed directly by the students. It represents the silhouette of the winged Victory of the Subé fountain, a sculpture in the city center of Reims, as well as two other symbols of the school: two pencils and the formula “1 + 2 = 3”. As for the colors, here again we find gray and blue.
