The imam of the Bleuets mosque in Marseille, whose mosque is threatened with closure, Smaïn Bendjilali, was taken into custody with his son on Tuesday, August 27 and was released on Wednesday, August 28, France Bleu Provence learned from concordant sources, confirming information from Europe 1. According to a police source contacted by France Bleu Provence, he was taken into custody after going to the police to report stocks of narcotics, cannabis resin, hidden in the basement of his building. He was released free and without charges against him, announced one of his lawyers contacted by France Bleu Provence.

The imam went to the police the day after his son was attacked on the night of Monday to Tuesday. The young man had fallen out of the window of an apartment on the 3rd floor of rue François Bazin in Marseille. Suspected of being involved in drug trafficking, he was attacked at the scene by several hooded men, before climbing out of the window to escape them, according to his statements. He was subsequently hospitalized before being taken into custody. Following his son’s accident, the imam went to the police to report these stocks of narcotics.

This young man is the eldest son of the imam of the Bleuets mosque, which is under administrative closure proceedings, particularly for sermons deemed radical. The cleric is also known, according to his followers, for having started a guerrilla war against the drug trafficking that is plaguing his neighborhood.
