(New York) Apple and Nvidia are currently discussing a possible investment in the capital of OpenAI, the flagship of generative artificial intelligence (AI), creator of the ChatGPT interface, several American media reported on Thursday.
Other investors are expected to appear in this new OpenAI funding round, starting with private equity firm Thrive Capital, based on a valuation of $100 billion.
This is 20 billion more than in the last round of funding, carried out only eight months ago.
OpenAI’s largest shareholder (49% of the capital), Microsoft could also contribute, according to American media, this new round of funding reaching several billion dollars.
Even more than OpenAI, Nvidia is the undisputed winner of the generative AI revolution, because its chips, GPUs, are considered essential to the development of this technology.
In particular, he invested $1.3 billion last year in the capital of Inflection AI, one of the most prominent start-ups in generative AI.
As for Apple, it already entered into a partnership with OpenAI in the spring to be able to use its generative AI models on its next-generation devices, particularly the iPhone.
The Apple group has considerable cash reserves, which reached 160 billion dollars at the end of June.
Contacted by AFP, Apple did not immediately respond.
