Already a silver and bronze medalist, the French swimmer, born in Chesnay (Yvelines), won the Paralympic title on Thursday, being the fastest in the 400m freestyle, in the S9 category.
He started slowly compared to the best but he held on and then knew how to accelerate to take the gold medal. Ugo Didier, at 22, became, for the first time in his career, Paralympic champion, in the Paris La Défense Arena pool, Thursday August 29.
Carried by the public as he entered the hall, the swimmer from the Toulouse club Dauphins du TOEC (where a certain Léon Marchand was trained) applied a perfect racing tactic to climb another step on the podium, after having won silver in this distance and bronze the same year in the 200m medley (category SM9) in Tokyo in 2021. In 4’12″55, he finished ahead of the Italian Simone Barlaam (4’14″16) and the Australian Brenden Hall (4’15″61).
