Emmanuel Macron’s consultations continue on Thursday, August 29, to find a new Prime Minister. The RN and the PCF are calling for an extraordinary session of the National Assembly.

The National Assembly could meet before the regular opening scheduled for October 1st. An extraordinary session can indeed be requested by the Prime Minister or the majority of the deputies. It is then convened by decree by the President of the Republic but it cannot exceed twelve days and must have a specific agenda. This session would in particular make it possible to advance the political calendar blocked since the dissolution of the National Assembly.

Without an exceptional session, “we’re going to be very late” on the budget of the year on which the Finance Commission is working, worries a law professor. The National Rally and a part of the left are demanding the holding of an extraordinary parliamentary session. The president can always choose to reject it.
