(Ottawa) Shopify has appointed a new chief technology officer, a position left vacant since January 2023.
The Ottawa-based e-commerce software company has announced Mikhail Parakhin as its new chief technology officer.
Mr. Parakhin’s LinkedIn profile says he was previously chief executive of Microsoft’s advertising and web services and chief technology officer at Yandex, a Russian technology company best known for its search engine.

Mikhail Parakhin was previously CEO of Microsoft’s advertising and web services and CTO of Yandex.
Shopify said Parakhin will oversee the company’s engineering and data organizations and will be involved in its machine learning and artificial intelligence efforts.
Former Shopify CTO Allan Leinwand left the company in January 2023 for an unspecified “personal reason.”
At the time, Shopify said CEO Tobi Lütke would assume some of Mr. Leinwand’s responsibilities.
