26th Gala Québec Cinéma | Phil Roy succeeds Jay Du Temple as host

Comedian Phil Roy succeeds Jay Du Temple at the helm of the Gala Québec Cinéma, which will be broadcast next December.

The ceremony, which rewards Quebec cinema artisans, will be held on December 8 on the airwaves of Noovo, which took over the gala after Radio-Canada abandoned it.

Phil Roy, who describes himself as a “big fan of Quebec cinema”, promised to offer an evening “anything but silent”, contrary to what the adage says “Silence, we’re filming!”

Bell Media, the owner of the Noovo network, says that Roy represents a unifying and touching humor, which fits well with the mission of the gala.

During the ceremony, 12 Iris trophies will be awarded, including the Michel-Côté prize, awarded by the public.

Nominations will be announced later.

The public broadcaster had pulled the plug on the Gala Québec Cinéma in October 2022, but it was saved in extremis by Noovo in July of the following year.

It was another comedian, Jay Du Temple, who hosted this new version of the gala.
